Mount Obama (pre August 2009 called Boggy Peak) is Antigua’s highest point and renamed in honour of the American president Barack Obama.
There is a rock sculpture at the base with a plaque which has written on it: "Mount Obama, named in honor of the historical election on Nov. 4, 2008, of Barack Hussein Obama, the first black president of the United States of America, as a symbol of excellence, triumph, hope and dignity for all people."
The highest mountain lies southwest of the island and rises up to 402 metres high. Mount Obama can be climbed from either its northern or southern side. Some would suggest that the northern side is more interesting to hike up as there are interesting jungle trails to explore. The hike itself is not so much of a climb but more of a stroll up a hill. It is relatively easy and will reward you with beautiful sights of the island.
